IMO: Agreement for Strategy Revision of GHG Reduction in Shipping
The world maritime community welcomed the recent strategy revision agreement at the International Maritime Organisation which aims at zero emissions from shipping on about 2050 and ambitious interim targets for 2030 and 2040.
Although shipping accounts for 2,7% of the total GHG emissions , the sector is committed in decarbonising maritime transport.
The availability of alternative fuels and technologies, where other sectors are involved, is a necessary condition.
Marine safety and the safety of our crews are also conditions as well as the adoption of a levy-based economic measure regarding GHG emissions, together the simple goal-based fuel standard, as proposed by the industry.
The Hellenic Chamber of Shipping , welcomes the revised agreement.
