Hellenic Maritime Day

The celebration of the Hellenic Maritime Day was inaugurated in March 2006 at the instigation of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, in cooperation with the country’s seafaring and shipowning organisations and with the support of the Greek Ministry of Merchant Marine.

The purpose of the celebration is threefold:

– To pay tribute to the contributors of the success of the Greek shipping; shipowners, seafarers and personnel of shipping companies.

– To raise public awareness of the significant role of shipping in the national economy.

– To inform young people of the advantages of following a career at sea, and the subsequent employment opportunities offered to them ashore.
