Best Management Practices to deter piracy in the Gulf of Aden and off the coast of Somalia have been agreed by ship owner interests, oil company and insurance interests and the International Maritime Bureau.

It offers guidance on preparation before the transit, on the transit itself and on actions appropriate during attacks.
